Division of Health Sciences Mission

The mission of IUPUC Division of Health Sciences is to positively influence the health of rural Indiana by educating all students to become learned health professionals who advance the science of healthcare in rural communities and evidence-based practice through translational research and outreach.

Division of Health Sciences Vision

IUPUC Division of Health Sciences will help impact rural healthcare through leadership and scholarship, while maximizing the health and quality of life for the people of rural South-Central Indiana.

Collaboration: Create a vibrant relationship between students, faculty, clinical partners, and other stakeholders to create a community of scholars who work together in knowledge generation and dissemination, thus shaping healthcare practice and policy especially in rural communities.

RN to BSN Track

This hybrid BSN option is offered for nursing students finishing an associate degree nursing program or registered nurses holding an associate degree or diploma in nursing from an accredited nursing program. Current ASN students and registered nurses seeking admission must apply to the campus Office of Admissions and may apply to the program anytime throughout the academic year. Students who have previously attended an IU campus or who are graduates of the associate program at IU should contact the DHS academic advisor. Students who have attended another college or university must forward an official transcript to the campus Office of Admissions.

RN to BSN Degree Completion Track

This online only option is offered on IU campuses for Registered Nurses (RN) holding an associate degree or diploma in nursing from an accredited nursing program. Registered nurses seeking admission to the must apply to the campus Office of Admissions and may apply to the program anytime throughout the academic year. Students who have previously attended an IU campus or who are graduates of the associate program at IU should contact the DHS academic counselor.  Students who have attended another college or university must forward an official transcript to the campus Office of Admissions.

Second Degree Accelerated BSN Track

This prelicensure option is offered for students who have obtained a bachelor's degree in a non-nursing field and want to become a register nurse . Students complete coursework emphasizing health promotion, disease prevention, health restoration, and health maintenance. The curriculum reflects the current trends in health care, focusing on wellness/illness concepts and the delivery of care in both hospital and community-based settings.

Application due dates for Indiana University School of Nursing at IUPUC may be found at www.iupuc.edu/health-sciences. The admission process is competitive, and acceptance depends on the number of applicants and the applicant's ability to compete academically in the pool of applicants.

Traditional BSN Track

This prelicensure option is for beginning undergraduate students who would like to pursue a career in nursing. Traditional BSN program students complete coursework emphasizing health promotion, disease prevention, health restoration, and health maintenance. The curriculum reflects the current trends in health care, focusing on wellness/illness concepts and the delivery of care in both hospital and community-based settings.

Community Health Advocacy Degree (CHA)

The Bachelor of Science in Community Health Advocacy program is a degree option for students interested in employment in a non-clinical, health-related helping profession. The curriculum is designed to prepare graduates to work as community health advocates and in supervisory positions in community health advocacy. Graduates will have the knowledge and skills to help people navigate the complex and dynamic American healthcare system to achieve greater access to coordinated, client-centered care. Community health advocates help individuals, families, and organizations learn healthy behaviors and make good healthcare decisions. Alumni are facilitators that provide culturally-sensitive information, support, case management, and referrals to resources, and advocate for clients through collaboration with other healthcare professionals. The program will prepare health advocates who are not only knowledgeable about healthy living and health care, but also reflective, caring, and effective communicators and educators.
